TrueClot Product Line
Luna works extensively within the field of medical simulation, with specific focus on the development of simulated biological fluids, tissues and systems (including blood and skin), development of training kits and devices for simulated trauma or surgical training, and developing integrated physical and computational biomechanics simulations. Our most successful medical simulation technology is under the “TrueClot®” product line.Â
Luna’s TrueClot Blood Simulant is a highly realistic simulated blood for hemorrhage control training and trauma simulation. Developed for training first responders in traumatic hemorrhage control, wound packing and the use of advanced hemostatic dressings, TrueClot Blood Simulant will form realistic simulated blood clots when used together with TrueClot Simulated Hemostatic Dressings and our Task Trainers or manikin-based wound simulator. Moulage clots can also be created instantly by mixing TrueClot with our liquid Clotting Solution.
Advanced Physical and Computational Models
In addition to these commercially-available products, Luna also has active development programs aimed at integrated physical and computational models of skin for use in advanced ballistics testing. Working with the Center for Applied Biomechanics at the University of Virginia, Luna is developing low-cost “ballistic” skin for ordinance testing. These physical models will be directly correlated with computational modeling of real skin and the simulated skin for advanced simulation studies for non-lethal weapons.
Finally, Luna works in the development of advanced surgical trainers. Most recently, this has included the development of a low-cost system for training in lateral canthotomy and cantholysis, a frequently used procedure to relieve pressure on the globe following head or ocular trauma. These systems were developed to allow frequent training for ocular surgeons and trauma medics, replacing the infrequent cadaver training that is currently the standard. Combined, Luna Labs has wide-ranging expertise across the medical simulation market, with focus on low-cost and commercially relevant systems aimed at saving money, saving time, and saving lives.
