Luna Labs – Applied Research & Development > Applied Research Technologies > Health Sciences > Delipidated Adipose Grafts For Free Fat Transfer
There is a medical need for increased predictability and reproducible clinical outcomes of autologous fat transfers common to reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. Current solutions include injectable synthetic materials and autologous grafts. Unacceptable clinical outcomes include migration, foreign body and allergic reactions, and non-reproducible end volume and tissue malleability.
Luna is developing a methodology and device that blends tissue and cell-based tissue engineering approaches to exploit the plasticity of adipose. Delipidation by a combination of mechanical and chemical stimuli followed by re-accumulation of intracellular lipid provides a more predictable volume fill.
